Meishan (梅山) is the ancient name of the region in central Hunan Province, centered around Anhua County and Xinhua County, which is the production area of Anhua Dark Tea.
A remote and mountainous region
It is a mountainous and fairly remote region, covered in luxurious forests. Inhabited since a very long time, its relative inaccessibility has led to the development of its own customs and practices, some of which are still alive today.
With unique folklore and traditions
‘Meishan Culture’ (梅山文化) refers to the unique local folk traditions. Among other things, the region has developed its own martial arts tradition and its own school of daoism and folk beliefs.
